How to avoid online Job Scams

In this quarantine, home-based online jobs are becoming more known and a lot of them pop up everywhere. Due to this crisis, employees or job seekers are highly encouraged to work-from-home. But, upon applying from different sources, how sure that this work is reliable? To avoid scams, I will give tips below on how to deal with them.

Trust Your Instincts If a Job Feels Scammy

As in other life circumstances, listening to your intuition is one of the best ways to stop a job scam. That can be hard if you’ve been out of work for a while and a plum place appears to fall into your lap with a smack dab. Yet think about the work and how you analytically handled yourself.

If for some reason (e.g., the work recruiter is pushy or aggressive, or you don’t have a good understanding of the job responsibilities), don’t think twice about walking away.

Most importantly, your instincts are more than likely right. And note, there are plenty to choose from of real online work out there.

Know the Signs of an Online Job Scam

As often in the work interview process, you are asked for personal financial information — such as your social security number, bank statement, home address and telephone number, date of birth, etc. Also, despite small jobs, the job pays a lot of money.

After all, it is almost always so if it seems too good to be true. Furthermore, the business boasts many tales that illustrate high-flying lifestyles from rags to riches. Moreover, be cautious of the job posting includes fast money, dramatic shifts in income overnight and contains obvious grammatical or orthographic errors. Some countless celebrities or public figures supposedly support the drug.

The email address for the connection is personal (e.g. [email protected]) or one that imitates the email address of a real organization (e.g. [email protected]). The work allows the applicants to pay some upfront expenses. Also, the pay depends on how many people you are hiring. Remember, a recruiter offers you the position straight away without testing your previous experience or asking for references.

Consider the Keywords

In general, be vigilant in posts about those keywords. The following options (and variations) can suggest a work-from-home job scam: free work from home jobs, Fast money, Limitless potential earning, multi-level marketing, envelope stuffing investment opportunities, and seminars.

Usually, scammers often commonly use terms such as ‘work-from-home’ and ‘work-at-home’ and the FBI warned people back in 2010, about the schemes associated with these phrases. If you are searching for a real remote job, use keywords as part of your quest, such as remote job, virtual work and telecommute work. True employers use those terms the most frequently.

Research the Companies

Let’s presume you are approached by a “recruiter,” who wants you to apply for a position. They say you’d be great for an open place, based on your qualifications and work experience.

It doesn’t mean the position is valid (or they say the recruiter is the one they are). On both recruiters and work, you will also do your due diligence. Conduct research and see whether you can find out any details about the recruiter/hiring manager and decide if they are a real individual.

Furthermore, the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission will have significant tools for identifying and reporting online work scams. Also, you should be able to find a trail that checks the person and the company and, if not, you may want to reconsider going forward.

Connect with the Company Directly

With a potential job, a hiring manager might reach out to you. We can give all the information about the work but not the biggest of them all — the organization that hires for the work.

However, if they may say they can not reveal the company or they would lose the possible commission associated with putting you in the role, you will know for certain the name of the company for which you are interviewing.

When you are not told by the hiring manager, it may be a hint that you are amid a scam. Contact the organization to check that a) the career recruiter is working for them, and b) the career you are applying for exists.

Dodging Work-from-Home Job Scams

Job scammers are unlikely to ever go away but there are ways to protect you and stop work scams. Using a reliable job search service such as Flex Jobs will help you find a real job faster.

Before uploading them to our site we pre-screen every job and business.

The professional analysis team weeds out both the obvious and the more subtle scams.

Along with commission-only jobs, low-paying positions, “company opportunities” and other junk so our members are guaranteed a quality job search experience.

Wherever else you can be searching, be vigilant, and always know the signs of a job-from-home scam and stay safe!
